Mistika Workflows Supported Platforms

Mistika Workflows Supported Platforms

SUPPORTED PLATFORMS:

Windows 10 64 bit / Windows 11 64 bit:

- Nvidia GPU required (any RTX models, older models before RTX can fail depending on the particular operation). CPU Intel or AMD x86 64 required (ARM is not supported on windows)

Mac:

- macOS: ARM models (Apple Silicon) are supported natively.

- Mac Intel models:Requires a discrete GPU from AMD

Linux :

- Rocky 9.3 64bit natively supported (Click here for Linux installation specific instructions). Other Linux distros are supported via docker (see mistikaworkflows docker repository).

- Mistika Workflows on Linux requires an NVIDIA GPU (any RTX model), and there must be an X11 graphics session running with the NVIDIA official (it needs to be the NVIDIA "Graphics driver", not the "Compute driver", and neither Nouveau).

Virtual machines and headless servers:

Several customers have reported good success running Mistika Workflows on virtual machines. However all virtual environments are different to each other so we can not offer official warranty or support for them, although we will always try to help.

Note that running Mistika Workflows in a virtual machine still requires an NVIDIA RTX GPU and the NVIDIA graphics driver running, as it needs to provide graphic contexts for Cuda, OpenGL and OpenCL, similar to a physical system. A graphics session needs to be already started and available the whole time that Mistika Workflows is running, even it there is no GUI and it is rendering via CLI commands.

- AWS EC2: In the particular case of VM instances on AWS EC2 you will need to install an AMI image with the"NVIDIA GRID" driver already preinstalled (check AWS documentation, it can also be mentioned as NVIDIA driver for"NVIDIA Virtual Workstations" or NVIDIA vGPU ). Just a "cuda" driver, a "Tesla" driver, or a "Compute" driver is not enough, you need the full graphics driver and a desktop graphical session started.

Also make sure that TCP port 1116 is opened for connection to the license server.

- Proxmox: In the particular case of Proxmox VMs, the NVIDIA GPU needs to be given to the VM in "passtrough" mode. Then, you can use the standard NVIDIA Graphics driver in your VM.

HARDWARE CONSIDERATIONS FOR IMAGE PROCESSING AND TRANSCODING:

A good part of the Mistika Workflows processing is made in the GPU: Transcoding image formats, using display filters, resolution changes, colour transformations, effects, compositing, etc. For that reason having a modern GPU is highly recommended, but it does not need to be high end, for example a small GeForce RTX is normally enough for good performance on Windows and Linux.

On Windows& Linux, these codecs are based on NVIDIA GPU processing:  R3D and Arri decoding,  NotchLC, nvidia-h264 and nvidia-h265/HEVC decoding and encoding.

The rest of compressed codecs are purely based on CPU and can take advantage of as many CPU cores as available. Among others: Apple ProRes, EXR compressed, J2K, MXF compressed, etc.

Uncompressed codecs (DPX, EXR uncompressed, Tiff16, Mistika JS, ...) do not require significant GPU or CPU processing, but logically they are very sensitive to storage access speed. Using NVMe drives or a high speed disk array is higly recommended for those formats, and the network speed is critical for non local media.

RAM: It depends on the resolution and complexity of the workflows, and also in the number of cores (more RAM required for processing more frames in parallel).

Minimum RAM: 8GB

Recommended RAM: 16GB (or more for complex cases, like when using very high resolutions or for systems with many CPU cores)

You can find more details about hardware recommendations here.

SOFTWARE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WINDOWS, MAC, AND LINUX

Differences for 3rd party products:

- After Effects node:Windows and macOS only. (there is no After Effects for Linux...)

- Pulsar node (QC).Windows only.

- EditReady node (encoder): macOS only

- NVIDIA H264 / NVIDIA H265 / NVIDIA CUDA decoder for RED R3D: Windows andLinux only (we suggest to use EditReady node as an alternative for mac, which has a node to control it in Mistika Workflows )

- Youlean Loudness Meter: macOS &Windows only

Max. render resolution:

- Windows& Linux: 32K

- macOS: 16K
